Steamboat Mountain School’s chapter of the National Honor Society hosted a study skills session prior to first trimester exams. The student members of NHS led small groups of students in a discussion of effective strategies for preparing for and taking examinations. All members of National Honor Society have successfully been through the process at least twice. They addressed proven techniques for memorization of information and ways actively to review notes by rewriting them, saying them out loud, and repeating key information. They discussed how to think conceptually about relationships among specific pieces of factual information because one of the major purposes of examinations is to teach students how to pull together all they've learned and analyze or think creatively about "the big picture."
