Global Immersion Studies (GIS)

Beau Zhang

2014 Graduate
University of Denver Student

"Junior year for Global Immersion Studies we went to Vietnam and Cambodia. We helped farmers in the fields and learned about the genocide. Senior year we went to Tanzania, and worked at a safe home for young girls in need. We went on safari in the Serengeti, and I remember we were getting pretty close to one of the lions.

With GIS we’re dealing with physical challenges and mental challenges. It pushes us out of our comfort zone—that’s the most important part. It’s a character-building process. It makes us capable of doing what we didn’t think we could do. It makes us into better selves.”
