Recreational Ski & Snowboarding

Recreational Skiing and Snowboarding

Students at Steamboat Mountain School love the recreational skiing and snowboard program! For students who are not involved in competitive winter sports, our recreational ski program takes the place of gym class. We ski and snowboard on Steamboat Ski Resort's Mt. Werner three afternoons a week.

The shuttle departs after lunch and drops students at Steamboat Ski Area. Students ski or ride in groups with teachers, who help guide improvements in technique and skill.
Combined with our fall outdoor activities, Steamboat Mountain School's gym class isn’t what you would find in a traditional high school. The emphasis is on wholesome outdoor fun in the beautiful Colorado Mountains, as well as on getting exercise and building skill in a sport.

We also run a shuttle to the ski mountain after breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. Pick up is in the late afternoon. Our campus is near a world-class ski resort with the freshest, deepest, and lightest powder in the world: the famous Steamboat Champagne PowderTM.

Prior ski or ride experience is not necessary. Students have learned to ski or ride at Steamboat Mountain School. Steamboat Mountain School Director of Experiential Education explains the program: “When you learn to ski or ride, and you’ve never done anything like it before, it gives you confidence to try other things.  Our students typically graduate from Steamboat Mountain School with a love for all things active: climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, and hiking. They lead healthier, happier lives.”
