Ski Season Begins!

The Steamboat Mountain School recreational ski ride program had their first day on snow yesterday!

Before heading to the mountain, the group had a meeting about both the privilege and responsibility about having a season’s pass. Margi Missling-Root, Director of Outdoor and Global Programs also emphasized the importance of safety and fun while skiing and riding on the mountain. She also reviewed the school’s Slopewise Code of Conduct. Later this week the students will meet with patrollers from the Steamboat Ski Resort’s Ski Patrol and learn about being a mountain ambassador, the skier’s responsibility code, and avalanche awareness.

In January, as part of our winter POPs (Physical and Outdoor Pursuits), the students will also learn about backcountry awareness and have a chance to ski in the backcountry.
