Steamboat Mountain School student/athlete Cooper Mann, '18 speaks to U14 Alpine Athletes

Cooper Mann, '18 was chosen to speak in front of U14 Rocky/Central Alpine athletes and their parents who were in town for the U14 Rocky/Central Championships hosted by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Here's what Cooper had to say about his pursuit of academics and alpine ski racing while attending Steamboat Mountain School:
Hello athletes and families!
I want to thank you for coming to Steamboat, and congratulate you all on your achievements this ski season. You should all be very proud of yourselves. I am a junior at Steamboat Mountain School. This is my first year living here, and let me tell you, there is truly no place I would rather be. I moved here last fall to not only chase my dreams as a ski racer, but my academic aspirations as well. I value my academic success on the same level as athletics. Steamboat Mountain School has allowed me to open doors that I never imagined would be possible. Each teacher is supportive and willing to work with every student in order for every individual to succeed in ski racing, and school as well. I came from a small town in Montana which had a rich ski community, but lacked support for ski racing. I heard about SMS through alumni who had attended the school several years before me. This community of students, teachers, and other faculty has truly shaped my life for the better. I know that not only will I be prepared to go to college, but be prepared for the rest of life’s journey’s as well. I highly recommend a visit so you can see first-hand the experiences I get to have every day.
