Steamboat Mountain School Students Head to Buffalo Pass for Back Country Skiing

Back country trip in our back yard! Steamboat Mountain School is located very close to world class back country skiing on Buffalo Pass. Senior Alex Boulanger has organized a BC training and trip led by faculty member and expert back country skier Brick Root.
On Friday during POPS (physical and outdoor pursuits), the whole group will learn how BC gear works, put on skins, skis, and practice on campus. The trip will leave on Saturday after breakfast and head up to Buffalo Pass. They plan to explore the Bear Tree Ridge area. They will also learn about safe winter travel, and the basics about gear, weather, terrain, and route.
